Study Grants for Rural Students of Health Studies

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora has partnered with Rural Women New Zealand | Ngā Wahine Taiwhenua o Aotearoa for a one-off opportunity to provide financial assistance to rural students of health studies.

The Study Grants for Rural Students of Health Studies will be awarded to students who are from rural or regional communities and are enrolled in a health qualification that will benefit healthcare offerings in rural communities. Applications are open to students of medicine, dental, midwifery, nursing (including enrolled nurses and nurse practitioners) and the allied health workforce who are enrolled in study with a recognised New Zealand tertiary provider.

Applicants are required to be from a community that is classified as Rural 1, Rural 2, or Rural 3 by the Geographic Classification for Health. You can find more information about rural classifications here.

We have had some queries regarding whether these grants are gender specific – please note that the grants are open to all students who meet the criteria outlined and are not restricted to a specific gender.

The application form provides further details on the eligibility criteria for the fund and the information required from applicants.

Grants will be awarded to rural students of health studies as a one-off grant of between $2,500-$5000

Applications close on 1 July 2024.
