About Michelle Cole
Kia ora, Welome! I am a Rural Nurse Specialist for child, adolescent & family mental health and wellbeing, providing national online support for rural families, community workers and schools. My experience includes youth brief intervention, school based mental health, inpatient and crisis support in rural Canterbury, Kaikoura, West Coast and Tasman Districts.
I live and work rurally in the beautiful Aorere Valley, providing focussed brief mental health and wellbeing intervention for children, adolescents and families. I’m also a clinical and wellbeing supervisor for community workers, nurses and schools.
I don’t work with a child in isolation, I am supporting the parents or carers so that therapeutic gains are experienced in the family system. When I became a parent I had no experience and limited insight into how my own intergenerational upbringing was informing my parenting. Parenting can be tough. Parents and carers are doing the hard work and often only need confidence, support, solid information, understanding and new skills to get through and improve the situation. A good thorough assessment also helps focus on the things to start on first that can bring relief quickly.
I offer Rural Women NZ members a concession and I am a provider for Aoake te Ra so I can offer fully funded sessions to those bereaved by suicide. I look forward to hearing from you.
