Hi, I am Harriet (Gurt), author from Gurt and Pops!

Gurt and Pops is the proud NZI Rural Women New Zealand Business Awards, 'Rural Champion' 2021 and Zanda McDonald Award 2023 New Zealand Winner.

I pride myself on sharing stories from one farmer to the next and to those beyond the farming gate.

I live down south beside Fiordland National Park and farm with my husband, Ed, on a sheep and beef property. I am extremely passionate about the rural industry and sending positive messages that engage both children and adults.

In the past I was a rural primary school teacher and of my favourite things about teaching was interacting with the children over incredible stories and a passion for reading and writing.

My business is built around producing stories that are 100% New Zealand written, illustrated and printed while ensuring that the messaging in the books is strong and meaningful. Relationships in business are extremely important to me and I love working with companies to help spread positive messages that can be found in my books for our children, who are the future in our rural industry and for those who wish to learn more about rural New Zealand.

Over the last few years, Gurt and Pops has evolved to be a brand that stands to provide resources for parents, teachers and adults, so they can have conversations with children that they maybe didn't know how to have or where to start. Use Your Voice is recognised as a mental health and wellbeing resource for children and has already helped many people with their journey.

Full of tractors, animals and all things rural, my books aim to please all those little eyes who see them and I know many a child who sleeps with a Gurt and Pops book under their pillow!

Our latest book, 'Wool's the Word' is based on our farm and tells the story about the wonder of wool and the world's best fibre. We are proud producers of such a sustainable product and want the world to know about it.
