Moa Flat members were ecstatic when one of the three garments they had created for the Fashion Fantazia Awards, held in Tapanui, west Otago, was announced as the Overall Winner.

Creative, quirky member Kerry France was the driving force behind the group, who between them produced an array of ‘hoarded’ goodies from which the three entries were dreamed up.

They won the Kiwiana section with a fabulous moa, titled ‘Extinct’, made from feathers, material and chicken wire.

In the Recycled section they entered ‘Catch of the Day’ using fish nets, plastic handles and material and a second entry ‘How Does Your Garden Grow’ – pictured here – which not only won the Recycled section, but was also awarded Overall Winner of the Show from an amazing display of 51 entries.

Gloria McHutchon, Moa Flat president, says “We enjoyed getting together for two working bees and each member took home tasks to finish off, before we met again to put them all together. ¬†Altogether there were over a hundred hours of work involved, but add to that a lot of laughter and enjoyment.”
All the hard work paid off, when the group took away prize money totalling over $1000!
