Submission: Independent Electoral Review Interim Report (IER Panel – Ministry of Justice)

We were pleased to see the IER Panel’s Report had noted our submission regarding voting in elections and removing barriers to participation.

In our response to the report recommendation regarding future-proofing special voting provisions, we reiterated that election services must take account of the erratic nature of mail delivery to ensure postal voting is a truly effective method of receiving ballot papers.

While online voting was out of scope for this review, RWNZ pointed out that use of the internet as a potential tool for elections in the future will need to take account of connectivity issues (inconsistent coverage, reliability and capacity) for the rural sector.
