Grants up to $500 are available to people over 25 years of age who wish to further their training or education in order to improve their skills. Applicants will need to indicate the benefit of their study to the wider community in addition to their personal development. Preference will be given to those who live in smaller centres or rural areas. The course to be undertaken must be offered by a recognised education provider. Region 5 (Rimanui RWNZ Norma Evans Education Award)
The RWNZ Region Five (Rimanui) Second Chance Education Award has been created by RWNZ Members to encourage women wishing to advance in the workforce to obtain qualifications improving their career opportunities and independence. It is to honour an outstanding woman, who has spent her life working really hard to create healthy, sustainable rural communities, supportive of the people who live there. Norma firmly believed that life is an apprenticeship that is on-going, and that one must fight to meet its challenges and to always grasp learning opportunities.
One award will be offered to a woman who wishes to complete a tertiary study programme to assist her to return to or enter the work force thereby enabling her to better develop her career. Up to $2000 for one year of tertiary study, with consideration of a second year’s grant of up to $2000 depending on the tertiary study undertaken and the grades achieved. – The applicant will need to provide a profile outlining their past achievements, proposed study programme, educational goals and their long term objectives.
– The applicant will be required to list two referees.
– The applicant may be required to attend an interview.
– You must be a New Zealand citizen to apply for this scholarship.
– You must be female and over the age of 25 years at the time of application.
– You must live in the Coromandel, Thames, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne or Central Plateau regions.

Korokipo Branch Agricultural/Horticultural Tertiary Bursary
The purpose of the bursary is to encourage residents of Hawke’s Bay to undertake further education or training in land based courses either through university or polytechnics. It is hoped that bursary recipients will ultimately seek employment in Hawke’s Bay so the benefits of their learning can be passed on to the Hawke’s Bay community and its industries. A grant of up to $2,000 will be awarded. The closing date for applications is the 15th of January.

– New Zealand citizen resident in the Hawke’s Bay District. The Hawkes Bay District encompasses those who live within the boundaries of Wairoa District, Hastings District, Napier City, or Central Hawkes Bay District.

Miss Harris Tertiary Nursing Bursary
This bursary is given in memory of Miss M Harris, a nurse who resided in the seaside community of Whangaparaoa, north of Auckland. In 1961 she bequeathed to the W.D.F.F. her property for use as a holiday home by members of the organisation. The members of the Northland region were entrusted to administer the holiday cottage for the Dominion Council and this continued until the property was sold by Rural Women New Zealand in September 2009.
Rural Women New Zealand wishes to offer people the opportunity to extend their education, specifically in nursing related courses/study. Applications close on the 1st of July.

Rural women New Zealand must be advised immediately if the applicant withdraws before completing the academic year as a proportional refund will be expected.

This grant is available to New Zealand citizens, with a successful applicant receiving $500 for one year (maximum 5 times per applicant). North Taranaki Provincial Holiday Cottage Investment Fund
The North Taranaki Provincial Holiday Cottage Investment Fund is a grant to assist the education, health, and welfare of women and families in North Taranaki. Priority is given to members of Rural Women New Zealand and their families. The amount awarded varies on a case-by-case basis, which is decided by a committee. Any application can apply more than once, for example, over a three-year course. This fund is ongoing, which means that applications are accepted all year round.
