Northland Flood Appeal

Rural Women New Zealand members have given generously to our Northland flood appeal, with $1,570 donated.

Thanking members for their contributions, Top of the North national councillor, Fiona Gower says, “So far this money has been used in various ways to support people affected by the flooding, including helping to fund a Northland Rural Support trust movie event in Dargaville, and for Kaikohe couples seriously affected by the floods to take a break, as well as providing some much appreciated boxes of baking, treats and gifts for children.

“Using Adverse Events funding from Ministry for Primary Industries, we are looking at the following events – a kids’ movie day at Dargaville for children from the worst affected areas; providing a small group of playcentres with funding to run fun events near Whangarei, and funding for a get together for women at Kaikohe.”

The children’s movie day was hosted at the Dargaville Anzac Movie Theatre and was organised by Aoroa Rural Women to help relieve stress for families by giving parents a bit of a break while the children have fun for a few hours. There were 31 children who attended. (pictured above)

Some of the money donated will be used to provide ongoing support for those still struggling with the long-term effects of the storms.
