March 2019 Draft Strategic Plan for Early Learning 2019-29:

  • This submission supports the recommendations of the strategic plan. However, there is no mention of rural communities in the proposed changes. RWNZ urges the Ministry of Education to adopt a rural lens when considering recommendations.

April 2019 Reform of Vocational Education:

  • This submission strongly supports the introduction of more industry-based providers into the education sector. Particularly the proposals for increased regional programme delivery and localised collaboration between industry employers and education providers.

April 2019 Tomorrow’s Schools Review:

  • This submission supports the submission made by the Rural Education Reference Group (RERG) on Whiria Ngā Kura Tūātinitini. RWNZ recognises that the Tomorrow’s Schools Independent Taskforce has made an effort to understand the unique challenges faced by rural schools and supports the Report’s recommendations. However, RWNZ urges the Ministry of Education to include rural representation at all levels of the proposed structural changes.

May 2016 New Models of Tertiary Education Inquiry:

  • This submission strongly supports the need for an inquiry into new models of tertiary education. Access to adult learning opportunities in rural New Zealand remains severely limited, tertiary education providers having little to no funding incentives to enhance their reach into these communities.
