Textbook Grant for Tertiary Students

The Textbook Grant is a one-off grant available to tertiary students to assist with the purchase of resources and materials, including software. Successful applicants will receive $500 for one year, and this grant can be applied for up to five times per applicant. Applications close on the 1st of March; late applications will not be considered.

Eligibility criteria: 

– Open to NZ citizens. 
– Available for tertiary students enrolled in a full-year course
– Applications close: 1st March

Value: $500 for one year 

Applications must include:

A character reference from a responsible officer of a Rural Women New Zealand Branch outlining the circumstances of the family and the need for assistance with the applicant’s education.


A character reference from another responsible citizen to whom the applicant is known.


Proof of course enrolment from the relevant University, Polytechnic or College.
Applications will be considered by the Rural Women New Zealand Bursary Committee, which is appointed by the National Board of Rural Women New Zealand. Applications will be acknowledged by the National Office upon receipt. Applications will be treated as confidential and are subject to the provisions of the Privacy Act.

Applicants will be notified of the Bursary Committee’s decision which will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into. The Committee reserves the right to check with successful applicants on the outcome of their studies.

This grant is payable for one year only per application. Payment of the grant to successful applicants will be made by 31 May.

Tertiary Bursary

The Tertiary Bursary is a one-off bursary available to tertiary students.  Factors such as financial need, the reasons for the course of study, and the intended use of the qualification are taken into consideration when awarding this bursary.  Successful applicants will receive a grant of $1,000 for one year.  This bursary can be applied for up to two times per applicant. Applications close on the 1st of March; late applications will not be considered.

Applications must include:

– A copy of the prior year’s study results, the last school report (if within three years), or an academic reference.

– A character reference from a responsible officer of a Rural Women New Zealand Branch outlining the circumstances of the family and the need for assistance with the applicant’s education.


– A character reference from another responsible citizen to whom the applicant is known.

– Proof of course enrolment from the relevant University, Polytechnic or College.

Education Fund

The Education Fund is a one-off grant of up to $500 available to people aged 25 years and over who wish to further their skills, training or education. Applicants will need to indicate the benefit of their study to the wider community as well as to their personal development. Preference will be given to applicants who live in smaller centres or rural areas. The course to be undertaken must be offered by a recognised education provider. Applications close on the 1st of March and the 1st of July.

– Any person 25 years of age and over may apply. 
– Short- or long-term courses undertaken with a recognised education provider will be considered. 
– Preference will be given to applicants who live in smaller centres or rural areas. 

Applications Close: 1st March and 1st July. 

Value: Up to $500

Applications must include:

– A character reference from a responsible officer of a Rural Women New Zealand Branch outlining the circumstances of the family and the need for assistance with the applicant’s education.
– A character reference from another responsible citizen to whom the applicant is known.
– Proof of enrolment in the chosen course of study.
– An outline of how the applicant’s study will be of benefit to the wider community as well as to their personal development.
